The Federal Government has awarded contracts for the rehabilitation of 13 police training institutions across Nigeria, with the project expected to take three weeks. The aim is to improve the facilities ahead of training programmes by the Nigeria Police Force.
The update was disclosed during the 160th meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima in Abuja. Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa said 80 per cent of the contractors had already received their award letters.
The rehabilitation is expected to improve infrastructure and equipment at the institutions as the government seeks to strengthen the training and retraining of police officers amid the country’s security challenges.
The Enugu State Deputy Governor, Ifeanyi Ossai, said the Minister of Finance had assured the council that funds required to pay the contractors would be released the following week, while police training and retraining would be sustained.
