FCT POLICE RESCUES 8 OUT OF 17 IN JIKWOYI BUILDING COLLAPSE

The FCT Police Command says 8 of 17 persons trapped in a collapsed building under construction at Jikwoyi Phase 1 have been rescued, as search and rescue operations continue.

In a statement, Police Public Relations Officer Superintendent of Police Josephine Adeh says the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, alongside the Deputy Commissioner (Operations), swiftly deployed a rescue team after receiving a distress call.

The statement indicates that the area was secured and a coordinated rescue effort launched, with support from NEMA, the Federal Fire Service and other agencies.

Preliminary findings show 17 workers were on site at the time of the collapse.

The rescued victims are receiving treatment at Sisters of the Nativity Hospital, Jikwoyi.

The Commissioner of Police has ordered a full investigation with the FCDA to determine the cause.

All parties involved in the building’s approval and inspection he said would be questioned to ensure accountability and prevent recurrence.
