The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has launched a specialised Violent Crime Response Unit to tackle kidnapping, armed robbery, violent attacks and other serious crimes across Abuja.

FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, said the unit was created on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, to strengthen public safety and improve operational response.

According to him, the unit has been divided into five operational sectors to ensure wider coverage, faster response, better intelligence gathering and more effective crime-fighting across the FCT.

Sanusi said the officers deployed to the unit were carefully selected, screened and trained based on competence, discipline and operational capacity.

He warned the officers to operate professionally and respect human rights, stressing that misconduct, intimidation, harassment, extortion or abuse of power would not be tolerated.

The Commander of the Guards Brigade, Brig. Gen. Adebisi Onasanya, described the unit as a force multiplier and assured the police of continued military support in securing the FCT.

The police also honoured CSP Mustafa Mohammed, Commander of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, for gallantry during a high-risk anti-kidnapping operation in Bwari on June 5, 2026.
