The FCT Police Command has arrested an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for allegedly firing shots into the air during a dispute with traders at Kubwa Market, Abuja.
The incident occurred on October 25, 2026, at about 1:50 p.m., after police received a distress call reporting that an armed man was shooting sporadically at the market. Police operatives responded and arrested the suspect, identified as Onoja Samuel, a Deputy Superintendent of Corps with the NSCDC.
According to the police, preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect went to the market with a pistol following reports that some traders had assaulted his wife. During an argument with the traders, he allegedly fired several shots into the air. Police recovered a CZ pistol and 17 rounds of live 9mm ammunition.
The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to be charged in court after investigations are concluded. The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has urged officers of sister security agencies to coordinate with local police divisions before carrying out operations in the territory.
