The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Marian Elia, 19, and her boyfriend, Izuchukwu Uzoma, 21, over the alleged theft of ₦35.92 million belonging to Esther Ogbeifun in Benin City, Edo State.

The defendants were arraigned before Justice C. A. Obiozor of the Federal High Court on a seven-count charge bordering on cybercrime, conspiracy and stealing. The EFCC alleges that the pair conspired to transfer the money from Ogbeifun’s account into an account operated by Uzoma.

According to the commission, Elia had access to the victim’s phones and banking information because she grew up in her home. Investigators allege that the money was transferred between March 8 and July 29, 2026, and converted to the defendants’ personal use.

Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges. The court ordered their remand at the Benin Correctional Centre and adjourned the case until December 7 for hearing.
