The Department of State Services (DSS) has directed its counsel to seek an adjournment of the alleged cyber-bullying case against African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, until after the 2027 presidential election.
According to reports, the decision is aimed at allowing Sowore to participate fully in the election campaign without the ongoing court proceedings interfering with his political activities.
The case followed social media posts made by Sowore in August 2025 in which he referred to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a “criminal.” The DSS subsequently approached the Federal High Court seeking a judicial determination on whether such a description amounted to cyber-bullying.
The agency is expected to formally approach the court for the adjournment when proceedings resume on September 14, 2026.
The 2027 presidential election is scheduled for January 16, 2027, with Sowore expected to contest under the AAC platform.
