The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has described the Presidency’s attempt to invoke China in its criticism of him as a “monumental own goal.”

In a statement, Atiku argued that rather than weakening his position, the comparison had only subjected President Bola Tinubu to greater public scrutiny.

According to the former vice president, the Presidency’s remarks have intensified public debate over the administration’s policies and leadership, insisting that the government’s response has backfired.

The exchange is the latest in the ongoing war of words between Atiku and the Presidency, as political tensions continue to rise ahead of the 2027 general elections.
