The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has warned that Nigeria’s public universities could face another round of industrial action if the Federal Government fails to fully implement the 2025 agreement signed with the union.

Speaking after its National Executive Council meeting in Yola, ASUU expressed frustration over what it described as the “slow, distorted and uncoordinated” implementation of the agreement reached with the government after years of negotiations. The union said several promises, including salary adjustments, allowances, and welfare packages for lecturers, remain unresolved.

ASUU also accused some federal and state authorities of failing to comply with the agreement despite participating in the negotiation process. According to the union, growing dissatisfaction among lecturers could trigger another nationwide strike if urgent steps are not taken to address the outstanding issues.

The warning comes months after the Federal Government announced that the era of ASUU strikes was over following the signing of the new agreement earlier this year.
