The Kogi State Government has announced the successful interception of a large cache of arms and ammunition allegedly destined for criminal elements planning retaliatory attacks within the state.
According to a statement issued on Monday, the operation was executed through a coordinated intelligence-led effort involving the state’s local security architecture, Hybrid Forces under the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army.
The government disclosed that the recovered weapons were intended for use in a planned large-scale assault capable of threatening public safety and destabilising parts of the state. However, acting on credible intelligence, security operatives moved swiftly to intercept the arms before they could reach their intended recipients.
The successful operation highlights the growing effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration between state and federal security institutions in combating criminal activities and safeguarding lives and property. Locals have also praised the joint security effort, describing it as timely and reassuring.
Kogi State Government commended the professionalism, vigilance, and commitment of the security agencies involved, noting that the operation underscores the importance of intelligence sharing and proactive security measures in addressing emerging threats.
The government reassured residents that security agencies remain on high alert and fully prepared to respond decisively to any attempt by criminal elements to undermine peace and security within the state.
“The interception sends a clear message that Kogi State is not a safe haven for criminals. Any attempt to retaliate, regroup, or destabilise the state will be met with overwhelming resistance from security forces,” the statement said.
Residents have also been urged to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to sustain ongoing efforts aimed at maintaining peace and stability across the state.
