An All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker representing Borno Senatorial District has heavily criticized the federal government over its persistent failure to properly implement the national budget.
During a heated legislative session, the senator confronted a federal minister regarding the glaring contradictions in the government’s financial reports and actual developmental performance.
The lawmaker pointed out that the executive recently boasted of a 49 percent increase in tax collection and a 76 percent rise in non-oil sector revenues.
He noted that the administration also celebrated having a massive $51 billion in foreign reserves, describing it as the highest in recent years.
Despite these massive financial figures and exceeding revenue targets, the senator expressed deep frustration that the government has woefully failed to execute the national budget.
He highlighted that the 2025 budget suffered severe implementation failures, forcing the National Assembly to roll over 70 percent of it to the 2026 fiscal year.
The lawmaker lamented that the remaining 30 percent, which was strictly supposed to be executed by March, was entirely neglected, prompting a legislative extension to September.
He revealed that critical security agencies have reported receiving absolutely zero capital allocation to carry out their constitutional duties.
He declared that the deliberate refusal to implement a passed budget is a direct breach of the law and constitutes an impeachable offence.
He further queried the federal government on why it retained a massive chunk of national revenues generated last month.
Out of the 3.7 trillion Naira received, the lawmaker observed that only 1.72 trillion Naira was disbursed to the three tiers of government, demanding a clear explanation for the retained funds.
