The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan, has revealed that he accepted his appointment with a strong spiritual conviction that God would guide and support him in the role.

Speaking in Abuja during an appreciation service organised by the Nigerian Baptist Convention, Amupitan said his decision to lead the electoral body was rooted in faith, noting that he would not have accepted the position without that assurance.

He explained that the conviction gave him confidence to take on the responsibility despite the challenges associated with overseeing Nigeria’s electoral process, including preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Amupitan also called for prayers and support from Nigerians, stressing that divine guidance has been central to his leadership and will remain key in navigating future electoral challenges.

The INEC chairman, who assumed office in October 2025, reiterated his commitment to delivering credible elections, expressing optimism that the commission can achieve improved outcomes with collective support and faith.
