The Director of Aerodrome and Airspace Standards at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Ahmad Abba has been re-elected Executive Vice President for Africa and the Middle East (EVP-AFM) of the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers’ Associations (IFATCA).

Abba’s re-election took place at the 37th IFATCA Africa and Middle East Regional Meeting, held in Amman, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, from 26 to 30 October 2026. His new term will run from 2027 to 2029.

First elected to the regional leadership position in 2024, Abba’s re-election reflects the confidence of IFATCA’s member associations in his leadership and continued commitment to advancing the interests of air traffic controllers across Africa and the Middle East.

In his role as EVP-AFM, Abba will work with member associations, aviation authorities, international organisations and industry partners to strengthen regional cooperation, promote safe and efficient air navigation services, support the development of a skilled aviation workforce, and advance the wellbeing and professional growth of air traffic controllers.

Abba expressed gratitude to the member associations for their confidence and support. “I remain committed to working with our member associations and regional partners to strengthen IFATCA, support our air traffic controllers, and contribute to a safer, more resilient and sustainable aviation system.”

Abba is a licensed air traffic controller with more than 25 years of experience in aviation. He is an International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)-certified instructor and has served in operational, safety, search and rescue, and regulatory roles. As Director of Aerodrome and Airspace Standards at the NCAA, he leads regulatory oversight in these areas while contributing to the development of civil aviation in Nigeria.

His re-election is a significant achievement for Nigeria and recognises the contribution of Nigerian aviation professionals to international leadership and cooperation.
