The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a clear directive stating that all newly elected state and party executives will not officially assume office until the expiration of the current leadership’s tenure and their formal inauguration, scheduled for May 12, 2026, or any other date that may be officially communicated by the party.

According to the statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party emphasized that the existing executives remain the only constitutionally recognized and legitimate officers of the ADC until the transition process is fully completed. This means that despite the conclusion of internal elections, no newly elected official is permitted to exercise authority, represent the party, or carry out executive functions until formally sworn in.

The ADC further cautioned all newly elected officers, particularly at the state level, to strictly adhere to this directive and avoid any actions that could undermine the party’s constitution or create parallel leadership structures. The party warned that premature assumption of office or unauthorized representation could lead to confusion within party ranks and disrupt internal order.

Reaffirming its internal governance principles, the ADC stressed its commitment to discipline, due process, and strict adherence to constitutional provisions guiding leadership transition. The statement underscores the party’s effort to maintain stability and prevent disputes during the handover period.
