Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have neutralised several Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists, including a high-profile member of the group’s Shura Council, Abu Hajara, during a fierce encounter in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.

Other notable terrorists reportedly killed during the engagement on 31 October 2026 include Abul Walid, a prominent ISWAP commander and close associate of the group’s overall Wali, Ba Shuwa, as well as two high-ranking Arab fighters.

The encounter occurred when ISWAP terrorists launched a massive attack on troops’ positions in Kukawa. However, the combined ground forces, supported by air assets from the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI, repelled the assault and inflicted heavy casualties on the attackers.

Following the engagement, troops recovered several weapons, ammunition and communication devices from the terrorists.

The latest development comes barely three days after another major engagement in Buni Yadi, where troops reportedly neutralised 55 terrorists, including key commanders identified as Ali Mandara Abba Gajiri (Munzir), Habu Ikkima Nakif Yana Faruk and Commander Gogore.
