The Gates Foundation has spotlighted African health workers, teachers and technology innovators using artificial intelligence (AI) to improve healthcare delivery and learning experiences across the continent.
On Thursday, the foundation brought together changemakers from across the world in Dakar, Senegal, where the 2026 Youth Olympics is underway, to showcase existing AI solutions in Africa and inspire more equitable applications of the technology.
The event builds on the foundation’s 2026 Goalkeepers Report, titled Make This Matter: AI, Equity, and the Choice We Can’t Delay, and highlights AI applications supporting frontline workers while calling for greater investment in tools designed for underserved communities.
