Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged young people in Plateau State to reject ethnic profiling and resist attempts to blame entire communities for the actions of a few individuals, warning that such narratives only fuel division and violence.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ engagement in Jos, Shettima stressed that lasting peace cannot be achieved through suspicion or collective blame. He called on youths to promote unity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence, regardless of ethnic or religious differences.
The Vice President said the Federal Government remains committed to restoring peace and stability in Plateau, adding that security agencies are working to apprehend those responsible for recent attacks and ensure they face justice. He urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that will help prevent further violence.
Shettima also appealed to community leaders, religious leaders, and traditional rulers to encourage dialogue and reconciliation, emphasizing that peace is essential for development and economic growth in the state.
