On Sunday, April 26, 28-year-old Ogidi Mena was shot dead by ASP Nuhu Usman, alias “Ogbegbe,” at Ekpan Police Station, Uvwie LGA, Delta State.
Mena had gone to Effurun Main Park, Sapele Road, to collect a waybill sent by a friend. Park officials, suspicious of the package’s weight, forced him to open it. They found a Beretta pistol with 4 live rounds. Mena insisted he was only running an errand and offered to take them to the sender. The park tied him up and alerted Uvwie Area Commander, ACP Aliyu Shaba.
Shaba sent ASP Ogbegbe’s patrol team to retrieve Mena. On arrival, Ogbegbe shot Mena in the hand in front of a crowd. Mena, still alive, was taken to Ekpan Station. There, instead of reporting to the Area Commander, Ogbegbe shot Mena three more times in the station car park, killing him instantly.
ACP Shaba, hearing the gunfire, ordered Ogbegbe disarmed and detained along with his team. They have since been transferred to Asaba, then Zone 5 Benin, and are expected at Force Headquarters for parade and dismissal.
