According to a statement by the Brigade, the incident occurred in the early hours of April 25, 2026, at Shagari Estate, where troops on routine night patrol responded to a distress call over an armed robbery attack.
On arrival, security operatives reportedly came under gunfire from fleeing suspects, leading to a brief exchange. During the crossfire, the corps member was fatally injured despite efforts to secure the area and protect residents.
The Guards Brigade described the situation as “highly volatile,” noting that troops were actively working to repel the attackers and restore calm in the community at the time of the incident.
The military authorities have extended condolences to the family of the deceased, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), and all those affected by the tragic loss.
They also confirmed that a full investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, assuring the public that findings will be made available.
The remains of the deceased have been deposited at Kubwa General Hospital, while the Brigade reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the Federal Capital Territory.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and continue cooperating with security agencies.
