Vice President Kashim Shettima on Tuesday publicly criticised former Kaduna State Governor, Ahmed Makarfi, suggesting he is not making the most of his political relevance within the opposition.
Speaking at the commissioning of the newly constructed Abba Kyari Banquet Hall at the Kaduna Government House on April 21, 2026, Shettima acknowledged Makarfi’s leadership qualities but questioned his continued association with what he implied is a declining political platform.
“Senator Ahmed Makarfi, I respect you enormously. You are a very decent man and an inclusive leader,” Shettima said. “You still have value to offer, but I sometimes wonder why you are wasting your talents holding onto the coat-tails of a sinking ship.”
Although the Vice President did not directly name the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), his remarks clearly alluded to Makarfi’s role within the opposition party.
Despite the criticism, Shettima maintained a respectful tone, emphasising Makarfi’s experience and potential contributions to national development.
