Former President Goodluck Jonathan has highlighted the importance of leadership, diplomacy, and regional cooperation while attending the annual award ceremony of the Association of Retired Career Ambassadors of Nigeria in Abuja.
At the event, Jonathan praised distinguished leaders whose vision and statesmanship contributed to the establishment of Economic Community of West African States, describing their efforts as foundational to West Africa’s unity and cooperation.
He specifically congratulated former Head of State Yakubu Gowon, who was honoured for his pivotal role in the creation of ECOWAS and his enduring legacy in regional diplomacy.
The ceremony also paid tribute to Gnassingbé Eyadéma, recognising his contributions to the vision of an integrated West Africa.
Jonathan further commended ARCAN for preserving Nigeria’s diplomatic heritage and encouraged continued commitment toward strengthening regional stability, shared prosperity, and collective responsibility across the sub-region.
