President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the renewal of the appointment of Professor Idris Muhammad Bugaje as Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for a second and final term of five years.
According to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onaunuga, Bugaje was first appointed on March 14, 2021, for an initial five-year tenure.
The statement noted that the renewal followed a comprehensive assessment of his performance, leadership, and contributions to the transformation of Nigeria’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector.
Under his leadership, the NBTE has recorded key milestones, including the repositioning of the TVET ecosystem, modernization of curricula, and the development and review of over 100 national curricula aligned with global skills demands.
The renewal is also aligned with the administration’s broader education priorities under its reform agenda, which places emphasis on skills development, employability, and technical capacity.
President Tinubu urged Bugaje to consolidate on existing reforms and ensure the completion of ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening technical education across the country.
The reappointment is expected to provide continuity in ongoing reforms within Nigeria’s technical education sector, as the government seeks to address skills gaps and improve workforce readiness.
