The Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, has disclosed that he facilitated the payment of WAEC fees for 2,000 indigent secondary school students across Ogun State not to score any political point.
According to him, his decision to personally pay for the external exams was born out of his passion for helping the indigent students to have access to education.
Adeola made this clarification while speaking the 3rd Annual Ramadan Lecture organised in Ilaro,Yewa South Local Government Area of the state.
The senator who expressed dismay at some politicians who are dubbing his intervention as politically motivated, stressed that he paid the exam fees because education remains the foundation of every child’s future.
He added that he is a product of quality education and understands the importance of supporting students in the state to achieve academic success.
Adeola, however, urged parents in the state not to deny their children quality education, describing them as the future pride of their families and the state.
“Education remains the foundation of every child’s future, hence I decided to pay the WAEC fees for the 2,000 students in the state.
“The gesture was not politically motivated, because I have not declared any political ambition to anyone. I was simply fulfilling my responsibility to my people.
“Therefore, I want to call on members of the opposition as well critics to desist from misinterpreting my genuine efforts to offer support to my people”, the senator stated.
The senator explained that the Ramadan lecture was organised to appreciate God and offer prayers for the nation and the state.
He said that as a devoted Christian, he had consistently supported the Islamic course and sponsored over 1,00 Muslim adherents to the Holy Pilgrimage in Mecca on a yearly basis
Adeola,. however, called on the electorate in the state not to allow religious sentiment to influence their decision in choosing the right leaders come 2027.
The Senator also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts at improving the nation’s economy, noting that the unification of exchange rates by his administration has strengthened the naira against the dollar and other foreign currencies.
In his sermon, the Guest Lecturer, Sheikh Jamiu Sanusi popularly known as ‘Ami Olohun’ urged Nigerians to hinge their hopes on God and human beings who can dash their hopes.
He called for religious harmony and tolerance in the country, pointing out that the coincidence of Ramadan and Lent is a strong indication that God wants unity among the Muslims and the Christians.
The Islamic cleric advises Senator Adeola to be wary of political sycophants who may mislead him from making the right decisions.
While praising the senator for his contributions to the development of Ogun West and beyond, he urged him to rely on God rather than human beings in his political journey.
