2026 dawns with regenerated hope for Labour – TUC

The Chairman of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Lagos State Council, Comrade Abiodun Aladetan, has assured labour under his leadership that the year 2026 has come with a regenerated hope for them, hence the need to remain optimistic. The Chairman gave this assurance in a new year message to his fellow comrades.

“As the dawn of 2026 breaks, we stand once again at the threshold of hope—hope renewed, strength reborn, and faith rekindled in the dignity of labour and the power of collective resolve”

Aladetan saluted every worker who laboured through the uncertainties of yesterday, those who showed up despite challenges, those who kept the wheels of Nigeria turning with commitment and sacrifice, for their resilience. “You are the backbone of our economy, the conscience of our democracy, and the quiet strength behind national progress.

“2025 tested us in many ways—economically, socially, and institutionally. Yet, in the face of hardship, Nigerian workers did not surrender to despair. Instead, you stood firm, demanding fairness, equity, and respect through lawful, peaceful, and principled engagement. That courage must remain our compass in 2026”

The Chief Comrade added that as they journey into the new year, he reaffirmed his commitment to a labour movement that truly reflects the will of the people—a movement anchored on internal democracy, transparency, unity, and service. “The strength of organised labour lies not in division, but in solidarity; not in personal ambition, but in collective interest; not in exclusion, but in inclusion.2026 must be a year where workers’ voices are not only heard but respected; where social dialogue prevails over confrontation; where policies are people-centred; and where productivity goes hand in hand with decent work, fair wages, and humane working conditions”

“We call on all workers to remain united, vigilant, and engaged. Let us rebuild trust within our ranks, close the gaps that divide us, and move forward together with a shared vision of a stronger, more responsive labour movement—one that stands boldly for justice while embracing dialogue as a tool for progress”

To Congress’ social partners and government at all levels, TUC reiterates that sustainable development can only thrive where workers are valued, protected, and treated as partners in progress.

“As we step into 2026, may this year bring improved welfare, renewed hope, good health, and greater opportunities for all workers and their families. May our collective efforts yield not just economic growth, but social justice and national stability” he prayed.
