Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu has warned politicians against recruiting, funding or mobilising Nigerian youths to perpetrate violence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Disu said the police would not tolerate acts of electoral violence, voter intimidation, the use of weapons or destruction of property during the election period.
He also cautioned political actors against using social media to inflame tensions and escalate political conflicts.
The IGP warned that anyone found involved in electoral violence would face appropriate action, stressing that the police would work to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.
