Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has announced the immediate employment of three Commonwealth Games medalists as the 2026 Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival commenced in Uyo.
Eno made the announcement after receiving the Unity Torch at the Governor’s Office Complex, describing sports as a major part of his administration’s youth development agenda.
The governor recognised the achievements of Edidiong Umofia, who won gold, Ruth Nyong, who won silver, and Enku Ekuta, who returned with a bronze medal from the Commonwealth Games.
In recognition of their performances, Eno directed their immediate employment into the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Sports Development.
The governor said his administration would continue to invest in young people, support talent discovery and create opportunities for youths to excel through sports.
