Hundreds of students of the Taraba State College of Nursing Sciences, Jalingo, have protested following an overnight attack on a female hostel located outside the institution’s premises.
The attackers allegedly raped a female student, cut off one of her fingers and stole phones and other valuables from students. The victim was taken to a hospital in the Mile 6 area of Jalingo for treatment, according to reports.
A students’ union official said the latest incident was the second attack on the college’s hostels within two weeks. Students had reportedly raised concerns after an earlier robbery, while authorities had promised to improve security.
The protesters are demanding urgent intervention from the Taraba State Government and security agencies. The state Ministry of Tertiary Education had earlier recommended stronger security and the relocation of students to safer accommodation, including completion of the college’s new hostels.
