Vice-President Kashim Shettima has constituted a technical committee to accelerate wheat and other staple crop production, as well as livestock development, across Nigeria. The committee was established on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, during a high-level meeting on agricultural sector performance and strategic interventions at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Shettima charged members of the committee to develop a clear implementation blueprint for the Federal Government’s agricultural interventions. He urged them to combine their expertise and coordinate efforts to speed up action on priority areas of the sector.
The committee comprises representatives of key government ministries and agencies responsible for agriculture, water resources, livestock development and finance, alongside officials overseeing food security and agribusiness initiatives. Its mandate is to coordinate strategic interventions and develop practical recommendations for implementation.
The move follows a meeting between President Bola Tinubu and agricultural stakeholders to discuss challenges affecting the sector. The government’s latest initiative focuses on improving domestic food production and strengthening coordination among relevant institutions, although the committee’s proposed blueprint and specific implementation measures are still to be developed.
