Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to occupants of shanties and makeshift structures built along the median of the Lagos–Badagry Expressway, warning that demolition will begin next week.

Speaking after the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Surulere, the governor said the clearance operation will cover the stretch from Orile-Iganmu to Okokomaiko, stressing that all illegal structures along the corridor will be removed.

“This is the final notice… Everything there will go. Every illegal structure will be removed. It is a highway median, not a market or a place to erect structures,” Sanwo-Olu said.

He said the state government would deploy thousands of enforcement personnel for the exercise, adding that the Lagos–Badagry Expressway is a major public investment that must be protected from illegal occupation and environmental degradation.

The governor also announced plans to strengthen waste management by adding 150 compactors to the state’s waste collection fleet and expanding recycling infrastructure to improve environmental sanitation across Lagos.
