The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has announced that the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has begun releasing upkeep allowances to eligible student beneficiaries under the Federal Government’s student loan scheme. The announcement follows weeks of complaints over delays in disbursement.
NANS President Babatunde Akinteye (Babtee) assured students that every eligible beneficiary would receive their upkeep payment, adding that the delays experienced in recent months had been addressed. He urged students who were yet to receive payment to remain patient, noting that the disbursements are being processed in batches.
The latest development comes after NELFUND confirmed it had commenced payment of the outstanding June and July 2026 upkeep allowances, with several beneficiaries already sharing payment alerts. The fund is also clearing previous backlogs to ensure no eligible student is left behind.
NANS reiterated its commitment to monitoring the disbursement process and promised to continue engaging with NELFUND to ensure students receive both their tuition payments and monthly upkeep allowances without unnecessary delays.
