Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Malami’s emergence comes amid his ongoing legal and political battles involving investigations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which have kept him in the national spotlight in recent months.
The former minister was affirmed during the ADC governorship nomination process in Kebbi, marking a major political comeback as he officially joins the race to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
His candidacy is expected to intensify political competition in Kebbi, where Governor Nasir Idris and the APC remain dominant forces ahead of 2027.
Malami, who served as Attorney-General under former President Muhammadu Buhari, has remained a controversial figure following allegations and investigations linked to alleged financial misconduct during his time in office — claims he has consistently denied.
Despite the EFCC scrutiny, the former minister continues to enjoy strong political support in Kebbi, with supporters recently staging large gatherings to welcome him back to the state ahead of the elections.
Political observers say his emergence under the ADC could significantly reshape opposition politics in Kebbi as coalition talks and political alignments continue nationwide.
The ADC has recently witnessed increased activities across several states as politicians seek alternative platforms ahead of the 2027 elections.
