Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo has ordered a massive multi-agency security operation to rescue a school principal, a NECO official and students abducted during the ongoing National Examinations Council (NECO) examinations in Dekina Local Government Area of the state.
The victims were identified as the principal of Government Secondary School, Olowa, Elder Daniel Iyanaa, NECO official Mr. Solomon Audu, and two female NECO candidates. The abduction occurred when armed men attacked the school during the examination. The Kogi State Government says five persons were initially kidnapped, but one victim has since been rescued.
Governor Ododo directed security agencies to deploy all available resources to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the arrest of those responsible. He assured residents that the state government would not relent until everyone abducted was safely reunited with their families.
The Kogi State Government said preliminary findings indicate that the examination centre was being used as a centre for external candidates and that the affected candidates were not regular students of the school. However, the government stressed that this would not diminish its responsibility to protect everyone within the state.
