Kenya’s President William Ruto on Friday, September 25, 2026, toured the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals Complex in Lagos, where he was hosted by Dangote Group President and Chief Executive, Aliko Dangote.
The visit comes ahead of the planned groundbreaking of a proposed 700,000-barrel-per-day refinery in Lamu, Kenya, a project involving Dangote. The facility is expected to expand Kenya’s refining capacity and strengthen petroleum supply in the region.
Ruto and Dangote had earlier discussed the proposed Kenyan refinery during a meeting on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, with discussions focusing on preparations and financing for the project.
Ruto’s visit to the Lagos refinery highlights growing business and economic ties between Nigeria and Kenya, particularly in the energy sector, as Kenya seeks to expand local refining capacity and reduce reliance on imported petroleum products.
