The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has strengthened its partnerships with Microsoft and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, held strategic meetings with officials of the two organisations on the sidelines of the Global Conference on Responsible AI and Elections in Ottawa, Canada.
At the meeting with Microsoft, Amupitan discussed emerging technologies, cybersecurity and the responsible use of artificial intelligence to strengthen the security and resilience of Nigeria’s electoral process.
He also met with IFES Chief AI Advisor, Dr Lisa Poggiali, to discuss the responsible application of artificial intelligence in electoral administration and ways to address emerging technological opportunities and risks.
The engagements are part of INEC’s efforts to strengthen the security, transparency, resilience and efficiency of Nigeria’s electoral process as preparations continue for the 2027 general elections.
