The Gombe State Government has approved the full implementation of the ₦70,000 national minimum wage for all local government workers across the state.
The approval, granted by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, covers employees in the 11 local government councils, as well as workers under Local Education Authorities and primary healthcare services.
According to the Head of Civil Service, Professor Muazu Shehu, the government has now cleared the outstanding 43 percent balance of the wage structure, completing 100 percent implementation of the new minimum wage.
The new wage regime is expected to take effect from May 2026, following improved financial capacity at the local government level, which has enabled councils to meet salary obligations more sustainably.
Officials noted that the move is aimed at boosting workers’ morale, increasing productivity, and strengthening service delivery at the grassroots, particularly in critical sectors such as education and healthcare.
The development comes amid broader efforts by state governments to implement the revised national minimum wage in response to rising economic pressures and demands from labour unions.
