The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has said normalcy has been restored in Dabiri and Paiko villages in Gwagwalada Area Council following reports of unrest between farmers and herders. The command said security measures had been strengthened to prevent further violence and protect residents.
FCT Commissioner of Police Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi met with leaders representing farmers and herders at the police headquarters on October 19, 2026, as part of efforts to ease tensions and prevent further escalation. He urged both groups to embrace dialogue, mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence.
Sanusi warned against incitement, retaliation and actions capable of threatening public safety. He also called on both groups to cooperate with the police in identifying and handing over those responsible for the attacks, stressing that the actions of a few individuals should not endanger entire communities.
The police urged residents of Dabiri, Paiko and neighbouring communities to remain calm, cooperate with security personnel and return to their lawful activities without fear. Residents were also advised to report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station.
