The International Mine Action Day 2026 has been commemorated in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital under the global theme Invest in Peace, Invest in Mine Action. The event brought together organisations from Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe States, alongside key humanitarian partners and relevant government agencies, to highlight the importance of coordinated efforts in addressing the impact of explosive hazards in the Northeast region.
The summit provided a strong platform for stakeholders to reflect on progress and strengthen collaboration in mine risk education, victim assistance, explosive ordnance risk awareness, and community safety initiatives.
Participants emphasized that mine action remains a critical component in protecting lives, restoring livelihoods, and supporting long-term peacebuilding and recovery in affected communities. The speakers reaffirmed that investing in mine action is an investment in peace and sustainable development.
