Former Nasarawa State Governor, Tanko Umar Al-Makura, has declared that he stands with all aspirants seeking the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket in the state, stressing that none should be accorded preferential treatment outside the party’s established process.

Al-Makura, a key figure in Nasarawa politics, said that as a leader, he sees all aspirants as equal stakeholders. According to him, the only candidate that will eventually be regarded as the party’s preferred choice is the one that emerges through a transparent and credible selection process.

He acknowledged his close political ties with Governor Abdullahi Sule, describing him as “a political son,” but cautioned against the early promotion of any aspirant. While affirming Sule’s democratic right to support a candidate, the former governor warned that presenting a preferred aspirant prematurely, especially to the President, could undermine party unity.

“What is the hurry? Let us wait for the process laid down by the party,” Al-Makura said pointedly.

He further called for the emergence of the most qualified candidate, one capable of adding value not just to the state but also to the broader political objective of securing the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Al-Makura, who served two terms Nasarawa state governor and a former Senator and was instrumental in rallying stakeholders and the masses to secure Sule’s emergence in 2019, reiterated the importance of consultation, mass support , and internal democracy. Now the North Central Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, he urged party members to place collective interest above individual ambitions.

The APC governorship race in Nasarawa is already shaping up into a keen contest, with several high-profile figures in the mix:

* Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada
* Musa Ahmed Mohammed
* Dr. Faisal Shuaib
* Ex-IGO Mohammed Adamu
* Prof Mohammed Sani Haruna
* Mohammed Hassan Abdullahi
* Hon Abubakar Hassan Nalaraba and

As political alignments gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, Al-Makura’s stance signals a clear push for a level playing field, one that prioritizes due process, merit, and party cohesion in determining the APC’s eventual flag bearer.
