The political battle ahead of the 2027 elections in Oyo State has taken another turn following the defection of Ajiboye Sangogade, popularly known as Boye Nation, and several supporters linked to former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Sangogade, identified by multiple reports as a former personal assistant and loyalist of Adelabu, led the defectors at a mega concert held at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan, where Governor Seyi Makinde formally received them into the APM.
The development comes months after Senator Sharafadeen Alli emerged as the APC’s governorship candidate for the 2027 Oyo State election, defeating Adelabu and other aspirants at the party’s primary.
Makinde, who is the APM’s presidential candidate, welcomed the defectors and expressed confidence in his party’s prospects in the 2027 elections.
However, the development has also triggered political commentary over Adelabu’s relationship with the APC and the activities of political associates previously linked to him.
Claims that Adelabu himself is directing the movement or working against President Bola Tinubu remain allegations and have not been independently established. There is also no verified evidence in the reports reviewed that Adelabu authorised the defection or personally endorsed Makinde’s presidential ambition.
The political realignment is nevertheless significant as parties continue to reorganise their structures and mobilise supporters ahead of the 2027 elections.
