According to a report by The Cable, on Monday, October 19, 2026, Pat Utomi, a professor of political economy, has warned that attempts to manipulate the 2027 general elections could trigger serious unrest in Nigeria.
He expressed concern over growing public anxiety about electoral malpractice, noting that any attempt to undermine the credibility of the electoral process could have severe consequences for the country.
Utomi said Nigerians were increasingly concerned about the possibility of electoral irregularities and the need to ensure that the outcome of the next general election reflected the wishes of the electorate.
