President Bola Tinubu has praised youth support groups for backing his administration’s policies and mobilising grassroots support, as the City Boy Movement pledged to secure 10 million votes for his re-election in 2027. Tinubu spoke on Monday, October 19, 2026, at a meeting with young supporters at the State House in Abuja, where he thanked them for defending his economic reforms despite the challenges faced by Nigerians.
The President commended the City Boy Movement and the group Relax, Tinubu Is Fixing Nigeria for promoting his administration’s agenda across communities and on social media. He also praised the movement’s grassroots structure and community outreach, while acknowledging the role of young members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in political mobilisation. Tinubu urged youths to participate peacefully in politics and encourage eligible Nigerians to obtain and use their Permanent Voter Cards.
During the meeting, City Boy Movement Director-General Francis Oluwatosin Shoga said the group had registered 4.8 million members in its database and was working to expand its nationwide presence. Ahmed Bala, Director-General of Relax, Tinubu Is Fixing Nigeria, separately pledged that his group would mobilise 10 million votes for Tinubu. These figures and targets were announced by the groups and have not been independently verified.
Tinubu also highlighted government programmes aimed at expanding opportunities for young Nigerians, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), the Credit Corporation of Nigeria (CREDICORP) and the Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) initiative. Vice-President Kashim Shettima defended the administration’s economic reforms, while other political leaders urged the support groups to communicate government policies and sustain peaceful grassroots engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.
