Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have arrested four suspected illegal arms fabricators and gunrunners during intelligence-led operations in Mangu and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas of Plateau State. The coordinated operations took place between October 7 and 11, following intelligence received on October 4, 2026.
The suspects were identified as Ayuba Sunday Abot, who allegedly fabricated weapons in Heipang, Barkin Ladi, and three suspected gunrunners, Tangkat Danjuma, Kopdi Appollos and Nyam Nzang. The military said the suspects were allegedly involved in illegal arms production and distribution across the two local government areas.
Items recovered included a locally fabricated revolver rifle, a locally fabricated pistol, an AK-47 barrel, an AK-47 magazine and 42 rounds of 7.62 × 54mm ammunition. The military said the recoveries could help investigators uncover wider networks involved in the production and supply of illegal weapons.
According to the military, preliminary interrogation raised an allegation that the ammunition had been purchased for ₦3,000 per round from an unidentified soldier. The claim remains unverified and is under investigation. The suspects and recovered items have been handed over to the headquarters of Operation ENDURING PEACE for further investigation.
