The Lagos State Police Command has identified Inspector Osumah Frank as the officer in a viral video making inappropriate remarks in a public transport vehicle.
In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Command said disciplinary action had commenced against the officer in accordance with the established regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Command also distanced itself from the remarks attributed to the inspector, stressing that the statements were made in his personal capacity and did not represent the official position or views of the Lagos State Police Command or the Nigeria Police Force.
The officer was filmed while travelling in a commercial vehicle in police uniform, making careless, inappropriate and uncultured political and ethnic remarks
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, says police personnel are expected to maintain professionalism, civility, discipline and respect for members of the public at all times.
He adds that wearing the police uniform carries a responsibility to uphold the dignity and integrity of the Force, noting that the Command would not condone conduct capable of bringing the Force into disrepute or undermining public confidence.
The Command affirms that Police is committed to transparency, accountability and policing with humility and integrity.
