Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Peter Obi has visited the Sheikh Muhammad Sambo Memorial Islamic Institute in Rigachikun, Kaduna State, shortly after arriving in Nigeria from London. Obi said he arrived in Abuja on Saturday morning aboard an Air Peace flight, which he noted landed 20 minutes ahead of schedule, before proceeding immediately to Kaduna.
During the visit, Obi said he was impressed by the progress made by the institution, which he said he had visited twice previously and supported in his personal capacity. He particularly commended its approach of combining Islamic education with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), describing the model as a form of holistic education capable of preparing young Nigerians for the demands of the modern world.
Obi said education should equip young people with both strong values and the knowledge and practical skills needed to contribute meaningfully to society. He stressed that developing human capital remains essential to creating opportunities and improving the living conditions of Nigerians, alongside investments in healthcare and other critical sectors.
The former presidential candidate reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives focused on education, healthcare, human capital development and poverty reduction. He also emphasised the need for every Nigerian, irrespective of religion, ethnicity, region or political affiliation, to have a sense of belonging and equal stake in the country.
