Troops of 18 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have rescued 22 kidnapped victims during an intensified operation in Muchiya Village, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State.
The victims were rescued on 15 September 2026 after troops of 18 Brigade Garrison, in conjunction with personnel of 45 Battalion, acted on credible intelligence about the convergence of terrorists in the area and launched a fighting patrol.
On sighting the advancing troops, the terrorists fled into the surrounding forest. The troops pursued them along their escape routes, leading to the rescue of the 22 victims and recovery of three motorcycles and other items abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
The rescued victims were handed over to the leadership of Muchiya community and subsequently reunited with their families. One of the victims, Alhaji Hassan, who sustained injuries while in captivity, was evacuated to a clinic and is responding to treatment.
