Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed reports that it does not have governorship candidates in 12 states ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party, in a statement yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, described the reports as false and aimed at undermining its growing political presence across the country.
The NDC said it had duly nominated governorship candidates in all the 28 states where governorship elections are scheduled to hold in 2027.
It also said it had structures, candidates and supporters across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), describing itself as a national movement rather than a regional party.
The party specifically listed its candidates in the 12 states where it said its participation had been questioned.
They are: Zamfara – Senator Kabiru Marafa; Borno – Rtd Rear Admiral Ibrahim Sanusi Kasim; Cross River – Hon. John Odey; Akwa Ibom – Babanta Michael Okon; Ebonyi – Nwofe Boniface; Plateau – Yakubu Solomon Ndam; Katsina – Ilu-Barde Aliyu; Kebbi – Alhaji Umar Usman Besse; Yobe – Jonga Yahaya Gabakau; Jigawa – Dutse Aminu Sani; Taraba – Prof. Yahaya Mohammed Sani; and Niger – Abdu Sidi Bomi.
Director urged media organisations, journalists, bloggers and other content creators to verify information before publishing reports about the party and the 2027 elections.
“Journalism thrives on truth, not rumours. Peddling unverified propaganda only erodes public trust in the media and in our democracy,” he said.
He said the NDC would remain focused on issue-based politics and would not be distracted by what he described as “sponsored falsehoods”.
According to him, the party is positioning itself as an alternative to the existing political order ahead of the 2027 elections.
Political Analysis Reports
“The NDC is the preferred party to salvage Nigeria. With credible candidates, a clear manifesto, and a commitment to security, jobs, and accountability, we are ready to rescue and rebuild this nation in 2027,” he said.
The spokesman urged Nigerians to support the party, saying its campaign to take political power in 2027 had begun.
