The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has extradited Mudashiru Afeez Olawale and Adebola Festus Adekunle to the United States to face prosecution over alleged online sexual exploitation and sextortion of two teenage boys.
The EFCC said the two men were extradited on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, following separate investigations by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) into sextortion schemes targeting male minors, particularly boys aged 13 to 17.
According to the EFCC, the cases involved the alleged use of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) to threaten victims and demand money through methods including money transfers, gift cards and cryptocurrency. The FBI linked the alleged schemes to two American teenagers who later died by suicide after being subjected to online sexual exploitation and extortion.
The EFCC said the extradition followed investigations and legal proceedings in Nigeria. In Olawale’s case, the Court of Appeal in Lagos on July 7, 2026, overturned an earlier Federal High Court decision, clearing the way for his extradition to the US.
The Commission said the case highlights the continued cooperation between the EFCC and FBI in tackling transnational internet-enabled crimes, particularly the sexual exploitation and sextortion of minors.
