Former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, has launched a strong attack on some prominent opposition figures, accusing them of pursuing personal interests and making false claims in their criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Mimiko alleged that former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s opposition to Tinubu was driven by personal grievances rather than concerns about Nigeria, describing him as someone who had become “stubborn” after losing political favour.
The former governor also criticised former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, accusing him of making false claims about his achievements while in office.
Mimiko further questioned Obi’s record on workers’ salaries and governance, contrasting it with Tinubu’s tenure as Lagos State governor.
He also took aim at former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and former Kogi State Senator Dino Melaye, making various allegations about their records and conduct.
Mimiko questioned the capacity of the opposition figures to challenge Tinubu politically, describing the president as an “astute administrator.”
The former governor’s remarks come amid growing political alignments ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, with opposition figures and political groups increasingly positioning themselves for the contest.
