The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has alleged that certain politicians within the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari printed 33.7 trillion naira without National Assembly approval and used the funds to purchase dollars from then-CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele at the official exchange rate.
Speaking in a media coverage by Channels TV, Adebayo said, “In Buhari’s government, something happened that some members of that government who are still alive today know what I’m about to say. They printed 33.7 trillion naira without appropriation by the National Assembly, and they used all that money to buy dollars at the official rate from Emefiele and called themselves trillionaires. And a substantial part of that money was taken in the name of security at that time,” he said.
Adebayo warned that many of the individuals allegedly involved in that scheme are now positioning themselves to contest the 2027 elections.
He argued that Nigerians must connect the dots between recycled politicians and the perpetuation of treasury looting. According to him, the political solution is to remove these politicians from power and their networks of fraudulent partners will collapse with them.
