Vice President Kashim Shettima has announced progress towards developing a modern, digitised addressing system designed to improve how communities, businesses and properties are located across Nigeria.
Shettima said he chaired a meeting of the National Addressing Council, where members and stakeholders from the public and private sectors ratified a preliminary framework for implementing the initiative.
Under the new arrangement, the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation will serve as the council’s secretariat to improve coordination and efficiency among participating government agencies.
Shettima said the system is expected to help locate communities more effectively, support businesses and improve government services while protecting citizens’ privacy.
He added that the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda’s objective of building institutions that can keep pace with Nigeria’s growing population, economic activity and technological development.
