Former Anambra State Governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi has called on presidential candidates ahead of the 2027 elections to conduct themselves in a manner worthy of the offices they seek.
Obi made the statement after signing the first National Peace Accord for the 2027 presidential election, saying candidates must reject violent rhetoric and ensure their supporters do the same.
He said the 2027 election should focus on issues affecting Nigerians, including national unity, insecurity, poverty, the growing number of out-of-school children and restoring hope to citizens.
“Those of us wishing to be addressed as ‘His Excellency’ must behave excellently,” Obi said, stressing that the process of attaining public office must also be excellent.
He also expressed confidence in INEC’s commitment to conducting free, fair and credible elections and called on law enforcement agencies to remain impartial throughout the election period.
Obi urged his supporters to remain peaceful, determined and committed to the democratic process as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.
